(Electronics Engineering)- Designing &
Implementation of Microprocessor based Auto Fare Meter- Being
an Engineering Graduate I’ve done the study on the behavior of Mechanical
Fare Meters which used to be very popular amongst the drivers of Yellow Cabs
and three wheelers during 90’s in Because,
in It was sort of cheating. Hence,
the implementation of Electronic Fare Meters would become very helpful to the
consumers, atleast they would know that they’re paying right money for their
journey. The research was to design the meter initially into Microprocessor based, later to convert it to
Micro Controller based and transferring the knowledge to the small scale
industry to come-up in manufacturing of it. The programming part had been
done in Assembly level language based in
Microprocessor 8085. The
electronic fare meter was designed in such a way that the reprogramming/
tampering was not that easy to perform, and the basic principal we’ve taken
counts of the front wheel rotations and calculating the kilometers traveled by the
rotation of front wheel and incorporating those calculations in the program.
We’ve designed an algorithm keeping many constraints in mind such as, Indian
seasons, road conditions etc. As this project was so popular during that
time, later local Government has implemented this type of fare meters in all
three wheelers, now in now in 3.
Research and
Implementation while working- Despite of knowing the fact that, in the Industry
when we work we’ve very less time to study and could invest time into
researching compared to those who’re in education field. Because in the
Industry following the known and successful track is known as the best
practice. Researching mind always try to invent, while working. Amongst many
cases, few cases I could remember right now which were beneficial for the
Organizations during that time, few suggestions were not taken but
implemented later due to the need of the time.
